What is CeciliaVPO

It is a software for a virtual pipe organ. You can change every cheap keyboard to almost true pipe organ. However, the use of the software is not restricted to keyboards; on the contrary, it is intended preferably for the large organ consoles with a pedal board. It aims at perfect organ sound under the conditions of quite easy control. The software is also endowed with many advanced sound functions for professional use in real rooms. It is available in version for Windows now, Linux version coming soon.

Key features and functions

Frequently asked questions

1. How to get CeciliaVPO software?

To get the software make an user account here. Then you can download the software and the free sample-sets.

2. Licencing

Our software is for free. All sample-sets available for free now will stay for free even in the future. We collaborate with professional sample-sets producers to offer you more and more virtual pipe organs. The prise of those professional sample-sets designed for CeciliaVPO already contains fee for using this software.

3. What is the technology?

CeciliaVPO is a software application that enables to change your computer into almost real pipe organ. The software employs sound samples, recorded from real pipe organs in order to achieve a real and authentic sound. It is using not only attacks and sustains, but also true sampled releases. Number of stops and their distribution into pipes differs according to a given sample-set (virtual instrument) and how it is loaded into the application. With its sound quality, this program ranks among the top in the category of virtual organs. CeciliaVPO differs from other virtual organ programs mainly by better optimization of demanding computational algorithms while maintaining maximum sound quality. This achieves better CPU and memory utilization and increases instrument loading speed. Another important feature of the application is simple and intuitive settings.

4. What I need to run CeciliaVPO and make an organ at home?

You can have a simple MIDI keyboard, a fully equipped MIDI organ console or an older digital organ with MIDI output. Then you will need a computer with 64-bit Windows 10 and 11 operating system. Functionality for Windows 7 and 8 is not guaranteed. The hardware requirements depend on the type and size of the organ sample set. In general, the most important parameter is the capacity of RAM memory. The absolute minimum for smaller - middle instruments can be considered 8 GB of RAM (in the extreme case 4 GB for the smallest instruments). The performance and number of processor cores affect the achieved latency and polyphony but are basically not a critical parameter. For faster loading of pipe organ sample-set, it is convenient to use an SSD disk. The MIDI keyboard must be connected to the computer via a USB/MIDI cable or using a USB cable only. It depends on the type of the MIDI output connector you have in your keyboard.

5. Is CeciliaVPO professional software product or it is rather for amateurs?

It is for both groups. It is a perfect solution for amateurs and hobbyists playing at home due to its simplicity and pleasant price. But on the other hand, CeciliaVPO has many advanced features and properties that are perfect for making professional instruments in real rooms for liturgical and concert use.

6. Can I use the software for embedding into the organ consoles?

CeciliaVPO is great for this purpose. It supports MIDI OUT messages to control lights, displays or solenoids.

7. Can I use sample-sets not originally suited for CeciliaVPO or my own samples (for example Hauptwerk sample-sets)?

No. Sorry for that, but because of our financing model only crypted and dedicated sample-sets can be used.

8. Which operating systems are supported?

Now it is available for Windows. Linux coming soon (also for small ARM single-board computers).

9. What to do if the installation is blocked?

The installation of CeciliaVPO may be blocked by Windows Defender in some cases. If a blue window appears (see below), click on "More info" to install the program despite the warning.

10. When uploading a sample-set the program reports "No valid licence"

To run each sample-set (including free sample-sets) a special protection licence file "*.lic1" is required. This file must be added to CeciliaVPO using the "Licences" option in the MENU. The file can be downloaded from www.smartorgan.eu in the user section under the "My user section / My sample-sets" category. For the given sample-set, the system pin is filled (it is displayed in the CecliaVPO application under the "Licences" option). The file can then be downloaded and added to the CeciliaVPO program.

11. No sound from the instrument?

You need to set the output audio device in the "Audio settings" MENU item. You can test the available audio devices using the test sound. It is necessary to assign the selected audio output to the corresponding audio perspective in the "Connect audio perspectives..." section and press "Apply connections".

A short installation guide

  1. First you need to register on the website www.smartorgan.eu. The CeciliaVPO software can then be downloaded ("My user section/Download"). Download a .zip archive “CeciliaVPO-installer.exe” - choose the version with the highest number. There are also links to available free sample-sets as .zip or . rar archives. Download some of them also.
  2. The archives with the software and sample-sets must be unzipped in any location (for example, in the "Documents" folder). To work with .rar archives, we recommend using "7-Zip" software, which is free.
  3. Install CeciliaVPO in the common way using the “ceciliaVPO-installer.exe” The installation may be blocked by Windows Defender in some cases. If a blue warning window appears, click on "More info" to install the program despite the warning. If CeciliaVPO is already installed from earlier, uninstall it before the new installation.
  4. Run CeciliaVPO. A window with a single "MENU" button will appear, click on it. Since no sample-set is loaded yet, most of the options are disabled. Go to "Licences". The "Installed licences" section will be empty for now, showing the so-called "System pin" at the top. This number is unique for each computer, and you will enter it when generating the license file. To run each sample-set (including free sample-sets) a special protection licence file "*.lic1" is required. This file must be added to CeciliaVPO using the "Licences" option in the MENU. The file can be downloaded from www.smartorgan.eu in the user section under the "Get licences" category. For the given sample-set, the system pin must be filled to generate the licence file to the given sample-set. Download the ".lic1" license file on your computer. Use the "Add a license" button in CeciliaVPO to upload this ".lic1" and press "OK". The original downloaded license file can then be deleted. If necessary, the license files can be downloaded repeatedly.
  5. In the MENU, select "Open sample set". Navigate to the folder with the sample-set and select appropriate .xml file. A dialog for loading the instrument will appear.
  6. In the "Perspectives to load" section, select the desired sound perspective. Organ samples are usually recorded in stereo pairs from several places in a church at different distances from the organ (sound perspective) - when playing with a multi-channel sound card and differently spaced speakers, you can achieve true surround sound. If you only have a stereo audio system or headphones (two channels), you don't need to load all the available perspectives, but just select one of them. In the "Options" section, you can select reducing the bit depth of the sound to 16bit, or you can exclude sampled releases from loading. Both are useful if you have problems with RAM capacity, or if you want to achieve faster loading. Press "OK" and load the instrument. See the user manual for the next steps.
  7. Then you need to set the output audio device in the "Audio settings" MENU item. You can test the available audio devices using the test sound. It is necessary to assign the selected audio output to the corresponding audio perspective in the "Connect audio perspectives..." section and press "Apply connections". For more detailed information please read the user manual.
  8. Now you can try the sound using the simple software keyboard or connect a real keyboard using MIDI.
